Remodeling from the Roots
Inspired by decades of lovingly cultivated gardens, this home renovation brought harmony between house and landscape. From Zen-inspired design and golden ratio proportions to a koi pond, treetop deck, and Craftsman details, see how “remodeling from the roots” transformed a simple ranch into a living sanctuary.

Good vs. Bad Home Remodels
Thanksgiving is the holiday that centers around the home. No fuss with presents, no explosion of fireworks, simply gathering in the dining room to share a meal prepared in mom’s kitchen. Not surprisingly, many folks see their home with new eyes as they prepare for family and company to visit during the holiday season. This can often lead to dreams of updating the hall bath, adding a mother-in-law suite, or even buying a new home with the intention of remodeling.

Maslow’s Shelter
Shelter is listed as one of the fundamental needs in the pyramid of needs hierarchy by Abraham Maslow.

A Springboard for Change
I have been grateful for the opportunity to continue to work. And I am grateful for a slower pace of life in the evenings. My social activities and civic commitments have slowed dramatically, and my relationships to my church family has been limited to phone calls, YouTube videos and Zoom meetings. But, what I personally have been most grateful for during this time of adjustment and loss, is my new found time for reflection.

Station Elation in Kitchen Remodels
I absolutely love cooking in my kitchen. The layout for the kitchen includes the combination of the well-known work triangle and what I call “stations”. In addition to the work triangle, made up of the traffic pattern when connecting the sink, range, and refrigerator, there are stations for prepping, cooking, baking, cleaning, snacking, and making coffee. When you overlap the triangle with stations, which are designated areas for specific tasks that you perform in the kitchen

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
If you’re contemplating buying a home, keep in mind that house hunting can be an enjoyable experience. All those properties…each with its own character. It’s exciting to get past the listing searches and actually go see properties. But it can also be tricky to navigate. Sometimes we tend to be sold on “charm” and not practicality. Conversely, we may struggle to visualize what a relatively lackluster house could become.

Dining Out
Outdoor kitchens have a universal appeal. With its natural allure and pristine beauty, the great outdoors beckons. In the United States we have a long history of recognizing Memorial Day with the traditional cookout. And so, begins the summer and fall for enjoying the outdoors.

Great Bidet!
Style-wise, the most dramatic shift we have seen in the bathroom remodels for a while is the trend towards wall mounted toilets and/or the inclusion of a bidet.

Tubs & Showers of 2018
Spoiler alert – bathrooms for 2018 coincide with what experts predicted. We’ve found spatial elements remaining consistent with those of the past several years but we are also seeing new styling lines on fixtures and then some features just now making their way to the United States.

Cost vs Value
Deciding whether or not to remodel involves a combination of fact finding and soul searching. As residential remodelers, we keep an eye on the cost of home improvement projects versus the increased value given to the home but that in itself is not enough data to help homeowners make a clear-cut decision.

Remodel Specifications
What I love about remodeling is how it reminds me of fashion. There are so many styles, textures, patterns, mediums and colors. And I particularly like the parallel between the eclectic home and current trend of anything goes in clothing. Mixing and matching is half the fun of these makeovers and the opportunity for creativity is endless.

Design Details
Good design can be found in the details. I am continually amazed by the number of customers who approach our company with the mindset...

Wait, What?
Communication can be tough. However, a great relationship is spawned by great communication.
